The Jade Book is a 19 x 18 x 6.5-inch, 151-pound book made entirely out of British Columbian jade (nephrite). It was made from a single boulder of yellow-green hue that originated in the remote Cassiar Mountains of northern British Columbia, close to Dease Lake – a town site known as “The Jade Capital of the World.” Made from the same material that Canada’s Coast Salish found in the Fraser and Bridge rivers and used 3,000 years ago – the same material the ancient Chinese revered as the Stone of Heaven – The Jade Book was created and carved in southern British Columbia by Cosimo Geracitano. It is the product of over 5,000 hours of work during a period of two years: 2000-2002.
